Hard to get used to....

There are many things that you get used to living oversees. You get used to being an outsider. You get used to different music, food, and humor. But, it's hard to get used to some of the environmental problems. It's kind of all around you. The water is polluted, forests are cut down (legally and illegally), car exhaust is not regulated, and so on. Many people really don't know any better. It's just what they have always done. I talked to a guy the other day and he had no clue that the rivers go to the ocean. For him, the garbage was just swept away when it rained and that was sufficient. It's defiantly a different mind set. Below are some examples.

We were out one time and a truck came through collecting logs that were cut down the day before. This whole area was cleared illegally in a couple of days.

This is a picture from Asuncion. There are tons of canals like this. People toss their garbage into the canal and it is washed away to the Paraguayan river whenever there is a hard rain.
